The importance of forests in sustainable development and climatic stability

The Presidents gathered at the Second Summit of Heads of State of the South American Community of Nations,

Considering the vital role of forests for Sustainable Development, reiterate their support to decisions and conclusions achieved at the Conferences of Parties at Framework Convention of the United Nations regarding Climatic Changes, held in Montreal in 2005 and Nairobi in 2006, including development of views on politics and positive incentive to Deforestation Events in Developing Countries reduction. The Heads of State emphasize the importance of the issue due to its effect on climate changes, biodiversity conservation, rural development, poverty reduction, potable water, desertification and erosion, etc., especially for indigenous communities in our countries.
