Americas Summit security operations begin
IN MAR DEL PLATA, ARGENTINA, OFFICIALS HAVE BEGUN A CENSUS
OF ALL THE PEOPLE TO BE FOUND IN THE VICINITY OF THE SUMMIT
OF THE AMERICAS MEETING
Summit security operations begin
Members of the security forces began taking a census today
of all the people who live or work in the vicinity of the
hotels where the IV Summit of the Americas will be taking
place in November
Although the restricted area to be cordoned off has not
been defined, it turns out that this census will take in an
area closest to the sea running through the neighbourhoods
of Stella Maris, San Carlos, Playa Grande and Centro.
Census taking began at 8 a.m. and was carried out by
members of police forces at the Federal level and from
Buenos Aires, besides the local police and administration
members. The census is scheduled to take some 30 days.
The objective is to be able to identify those people who
normally circulate in the area, and each one would receive
an individual pass which permits them to go in and out of
the four security zones as dictated by the Unified Command
that is coordinating these control operations, all under
the command of Commissioner General Carlos Pardal.
The security personnel carrying out the census were
uniformed with proper identification.
The participating Buenos Aires police forces included the
District Police, and also from Investigations and Drug
Trafficking.
The credentials to be handed out following the census fall
into five categories depending on the recipient’s status:
permanent dwellers; those who work in the area; public
transport workers and other services workers going in and
out of the control zone; emergency services including
ambulance workers and fire fighters; and suppliers.
The United Command has indicated that all those who aren’t
currently in Mar del Plata can leave their documents with
others and complete the paper work later at the nearest
Federal police station.
Those people who have a concern about the people turning up
on their door step can get more information by calling 101,
according to the authorities in charge of the census.
