The FSM began in Bamako 2006

The sixth edition of the World Social Forum has already begun. The kick-off
was in Bamako, Mali, on January 19. This time round, the WSF is
polycentric and decentralized, and will take place in three cities of
different continents: Bamako (Mali/Africa), Caracas (Venezuela/Americas)
and Karachi (Pakistan/Asia).

The next phase will be in Caracas, from 24 to 29 of this month. An
estimated 100 thousand people will participate in the event, among them
social movements, organizations, institutions from all around the world.
250 rooms of different institutions in Caracas will host almost 2000
activities, including 180 popular manifestations. The event also includes
10 solidarity tents, among them: ALBA, Via Campesina, Social Movements of
the United States, Youth and Mercosur.

The Social Movements Information Minga, as in previous years, will be
covering the activities of the WSF. More than 30 communicators from social
movements of ten countries that form part of social coordinating bodies and
networks such as CLOC, Cry of the Excluded, South-South Dialogue and the
Network of Women Transforming the Economy, Assembly of Caribbean Peoples,
Indigenous Liaison, among others, will participate in the work team.

As from today, we have begun to report from Caracas, where work is
progressing intensively on the organization of the event. The site
will include information in five languages: Kichwa,
Spanish, Portuguese, English and French.
